À propos de Ernst Kovacic

The violinist Ernst Kovacic very quickly held an outstanding position among the soloists of his generation for his interpretation of Bach’s solo works and Mozart’s violin concertos as well as for his commitment to contemporary music. Many composers wrote works for him. In the early 1990s he began to work with numerous chamber orchestras as a “directing soloist” which soon led to an intensive career as a conductor. From 1996 to 1998 he was principal conductor and artistic director of the Viennese Chamber Orchestra, from 2007 to 2014 artistic director of the Leopoldinum Chamber Orchestra in Wroclaw, Poland. Appearances at renowned European festivals and numerous CDs bear testimony to his work. In March and May 2016 he was artist-in-residence at the Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau and at the con anima festival in Lower Austria. Apart from his work as a soloist, Ernst Kovacic has played in the Zebra Trio together with the violist Steve Dann and the cellist Anssi Karttunen since 2008. This trio devotes itself especially to the encouragement of new works for this genre. Ernst Kovacic teaches at the University of Music in Vienna, holds master classes and seminars. Together with Beat Furrer, he founded the “Impulse” seminars for composers and performers of new music in Graz. As a curator of several festivals and concert cycles, he puts his programme ideas into practice. Since 2002 he has been chairman of the board of trustees of the Ernst Krenek Private Foundation in Krems.
