Johannes  Kalitzke

Né: 12 février 1959
Pays d'origine: Allemagne

Johannes Kalitzke was born in Cologne in 1959 and studied church music and piano (with Aloys Kontarsky), conducting (with Wolfgang von der Nahmer) and composition (with York Holler) at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. A scholarship of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes enabled him to study at the IRCAM in Paris where he was a pupil of Vinko Globokar.

From 1988 to 1990 he was the principal conductor of the Gelsenkirchen 'Musiktheater im Revier'. In 1991 he became the artistic director and conductor of the Ensemble Musikfabrik which had been cofounded by him.

Today, he is an acknowledged composer and regular guest conductor at international festivals of contemporary music.

Kalitzke has received numerous awards and distinctions, such as the Bernd Alois Zimmermann Prize of the City of Cologne and, in 2003, the scholarship for the Villa Massimo in Rome. Since 2009 he has been a member of the Academy of the Arts.

Today he is a freelance artist living in Cologne and Vienna.
