Juliane Banse – born in southern Germany and raised in Zurich – began her vocal studies with Paul Steiner; later she studied with Ruth Rohner at the Zurich Opera and completed her studies with Brigitte Fassbaender and Daphne Evangelatos in Munich. Juliane Banse is outstanding for her wide-ranging artistic abilities. Her opera repertoire includes the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito), Genoveva (the title role), Leonore (Fidelio), Tatjana (Eugen Onegin), and Arabella (the title role), as well as Grete (Der ferne Klang). In 2014, she made her American debut in Chicago as Rosalinde (Fledermaus), and in the same year she sang Zdenka (Arabella) at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Juliane Banse is also an artist with a widely varied concert repertoire. She has appeared with renowned conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Chailly, Bernard Haitink, Franz Welser-Möst, Mariss Jansons, and Zubin Mehta. She has also collaborated closely with Heinz Holliger; her performance as Snow White at the premiere of his opera of the same name in Zurich remains unforgettable. In addition, Banse is well known as a chamber music artist; a highpoint in 2016 was the premiere of a work by Manfred Trojahn at the Salzburg Easter Festival.

Many of her numerous CD recordings have received prizes, including two Echo Klassik awards: Walter Braunfels’s Jeanne d’Arc with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Manfred Honeck (International Recording of the Year) and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra under David Zinman (Symphonic Recording of the Year).

As of the school year 2016-2017, Juliane Banse is a Voice Professor at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf.
