Rolf Rudin was born in Frankfurt/Main in 1961. There as well as in Würzburg he studied school music, composition, conducting and music theory. After teaching music theory at the Frankfurt Musikhochschule for ten years, he now lives near Frankfurt/Main as a freelance composer.

He held a scholarship of the German National Merit Foundation and won a scholarship of the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs for a six-month stay in Paris at the Cité Internationale des Arts in 1990/91. In 2010 he received the Arts Prize of the Main-Kinzig area for outstanding cultural and artistic performance. Several of his chamber music, choral and orchestral works won prizes at German and international competitions and can now be found in concert programmes far beyond the German borders, such as in Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and the Asian area as well.

From 1999 to 2005, Rolf Rudin was a member of the international board of WASBE (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles), an international wind band organization, and since 2004 has been active as vice-chairman of the state sections of Hesse/Saarland/Rhineland-Palatinate of the German Composers' Association. Most of Rolf Rudin's works are commissioned by various institutions, orchestras, ensembles and performers at home and abroad, and some compositions were selected as compulsory pieces for German and international competitions.

Meanwhile, his compositions are documented on more than 60 CDs as well as in productions and live recordings of many broadcasting companies at home and abroad.

His activities are complemented by workshops and seminars on composition, analysis, instrumentation, conducting and interpretation of his own works to which he is invited at home and abroad and which help to improve the collaboration between composer and performer.
