The Palestinian-Israeli composer Samir Odeh-Tamimi was born in Jaljulia (Israel) in 1970. From 1984 to 1989 he played keyboards and percussion in various wellknown ensembles specialising in traditional Arabic music. After studying musicology at KielUniversity from 1992 to 1996 he studied composition with Younghi Pagh-Paan and analysis with Günter Steinke at BremenUniversity of the Arts until 2005. Since 1999 he has composed concise solo, ensemble and orchestral pieces, mainly for standard instruments. His music is a successful synthesis of advanced European art music and the musical traditions of his native country.

Odeh-Tamimis works have been performed by Trio Viaggio, Ensemble Phoenix (Basle), Ensemble Resonanz, Ensemble musikFabrik, Ensemble Modern, ensemble mosaik, Ensemble Aventure, Ensemble Linea (Strasbourg), Ensemble UnitedBerlin, the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, the Bochumer Sinfoniker, RIAS Kammerchor, Margit Kern and Teodoro Anzellotti (accordeon), Stefano Scodanibbio (double bass), Jeremias Schwarzer (recorder) and Romain Bischoff (countertenor). Among the conductors who have premièred his works are Peter Rundel, Peter Eötvös, Rupert Huber, Arturo Tamayo and Jonathan Stockhammer. His compositions can be heard at domestic and international festivals and have won him many prizes and distinctions. He has received commissions inter alia from Deutschlandradio Kultur, Deutschlandfunk, the Saarländischer Rundfunk, the Bochumer Sinfoniker, the Europäisches Zentrum der Künste Hellerau, Ultraschall, the Donaueschinger Musiktage, the WDR and musica viva. In 2010 his oratorio Hinter der Mauer was premièred by the RIAS Kammerchor and Ensemble musikFabrik in Radialsystem V, Berlin. In the same year his theatre piece Leila und Madschnun was premièred at the Ruhr Triennale in Bochum.

Samir Odeh-Tamimi lives and works in Berlin.
