Sigune von Osten, German opera singer (soprano), composer and music artist, was born in Dresden, raised in Hamburg and has been given performances all over the world. Her international career as singer she has committed herself to the Music of the 20th/21st century.
She has worked with composers such as John Cage, Olivier Messiaen, Luigi Nono, Giacinto Scelsi, Krzysztof Penderecki, Cristobal Halffter. Sigune von Osten was a regular guest at international music festivals (in Berlin, Vienna, Salzburg, Donaueschingen, Venice, Paris, Madrid, Lisbon, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, and Tokyo).
Initiator and dedicatee of many world premières, has undertaken concert tours, radio and television recordings in Europe, the US, South America, and Japan, recorded CDs and vinyl records, performed in music theatre productions in Stuttgart, Paris, Venice, Madrid, Lisbon, and organized workshops of contemporary music. She has frequently encouraged composers to write pieces for her, most recently Xiaoyong Chen, Knut Müller, Iris ter Schiphorst, and Jocy de Oliveira.
She founded and manages the ensemble MUSICA TEMPORALE for contemporary music / Dresden and ART POINT – extraordinary cultural projects at Trombacher Hof with the ART POINT ensemble. Further to her career as a singer, she worked as an initiator, artistic director, and producer.
Sigune von Osten has been working with non-European musicians and their traditional instruments for many years. She also composed, directed and designed her own projects in combining music, literature, the fine arts, light, space, movement and voices (e. g. John Cage's "MusiCircus" and "Novemberland" with Günter Grass).
Sigune von Osten died on July 8, 2021 at the Trombacher Hof near Bad Kreuznach.
