Description

Originally released in 1987 on Intuition Records, this recording finally is available on CD again now. The album features Charlie Mariano’s expressive saxophone play accompanied by iazz and classics guitarist Paul Shigihara - who is also known for the scores he wrote lor several popular german motion pictures - and renowned producer and keyboarder Mike Herting: Overall another impressive display of the stunning multitude of styles and cultures Mariano became closely familiar with during his ever changing musical life. Charlie Mariano performed and recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Elvin Jones and many others; after living and working in Asia for years, he did collaborations with the highly acclaimed Karnataka College of  Percussion and Rabih Ahou-Khalil; his ensemble “Embryo” eventually opened new ways in Ethno Ruck. And the story continues. However. in all those different constellations and cooperations the sound of Mariano's saxophone did, does and will remain always his very personal and unique one - smooth, warm und lyrical. “Mariano” offers a lush panorama of these soundscapes, containing - besides other originals - his alltime classic “Alvorada” and Mariano’s interpretation of the “Pavane pour une infante défunte”, stating one at the most beautiful iazz attentions of a classical work that were ever done.
