‘Yet they were surrounded by nothing but brilliant white, white all around, enveloping them in an ever-narrowing circle before changing into bright banks of descending fog which consumed and shrouded everything, ultimately being transformed into unending snowfall.’ The source of this text is Adalbert Stifter’s novella in which two lost children spend the night in a bleak, freezing mountain landscape. Their rescue borders on a miracle, and reunites two alienated villages and families. Nino Rota’s stage music accompanies the children on their adventure, and concludes with joyous Christmas melodies.
