Anton Zink and Paul G. Vogt take the parable of the gentle bull Ferdinand who would much prefer to smell the scent of flowers than allow himself to be tormented in the bullfighting arena – i.e. a follower of the notorious motto ‘make love not war’ – as their model for an enjoyable work on dealing with one’s own aggressions and those of others, producing a sophisticated composition which takes obvious pleasure in an ironic approach not only to the genre of ‘educational works’ but also ‘elevated’ musical heritage.
