Description
This work was written in 1997 and one year later the composer
himself conducted the first performance in Munich with the cellist Tatjana Wassiljewa. The nine movements of the Rhapsody are named after the nine Muses, Greek goddesses who protected the arts.:
- Euterpe, Muse of music and lyric poetry
- Erato, Muse of amatory lyric poetry
- Melpomene, Muse of tragedy
- Calliope, Muse of epic poetry
- Clio, Muse of history
- Urania, Muse of astronomy
- Terpsichore, Muse of choral song and dance
- Polyhymnia, Muse of mime and sublime lyric
- Thalia, Muse of comedy and pastoral poetry
