A choir director has to be more than a magician with a baton. Perfect organisation, careful preparation and profound skills form the basis of his work. In addition, his work as a musical communicator and motivator holds far-reaching social relevance.

Using a new combination of media, Simon Halsey, choir director of international renown and passionate educationalist, passes on his own personal experiences: a plethora of practical information on the work with both amateur choirs and professional ensembles. While the DVD shows him as a teacher during one of his master classes for young choir directors and during rehearsals with the Berlin Radio Choir, the book provides information on the varied tasks of a choir director – from managing the choir via programming, studying the score and rehearsing to performing at a concert.

For decades, Simon Halsey has been working with leading professional choirs of the world, but also with amateur ensembles on a regular basis. In 2001 he was appointed director of the Berlin Radio Choir. In 2002 the inventor of innovative concert projects and choral education programmes was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
