Symphony No. 6

"A Hundred Years from Now"

for soprano and orchestra

text by Rabindranath Tagore

translated by Tatsuo Morimoto

  • Instrumentation: soprano et orchestre
  • Édition: matériel d'exécution

Description
When I composed this work, I had several images from Tagore’s poems in mind as the motifs for the music. In his poems, Tagore describes the loves of his life, paying homage to nature, humanity and the arts and the danger of neglecting them, as the basis of his faith. The song in this work is an expression of spiritual elevation, and the tension is intensified towards the musical climax. The power and beauty of the Japanese translation by Tatsuo Morimoto also reinforce the structure of the work. Toshi Ichiyanagi
