In diesem Stück geht es nicht um bestimmte Utopien oder gar um alle – das wäre wiederum utopisch. Vielmehr geht es um Utopie ihrem Wesen nach, und dies als Musiktheater mit beweglichen Stimmen, Klangkörpern. Utopien ist ein Stück über das Leben. Die Vokalisten sind sechs bewegliche Klangquellen, die, was die Klänge selber anbelangt, von traditionellen Tönen bis zu Maulwerkhaftem reichen. Ich entwerfe ein Stück absoluter Musik wie ein Streichquartett oder eine Sinfonie, nur eben mit beweglichen Klangquellen. Aus diesen Bewegungs- oder Stillstandassoziationen kann dann so etwas wie Inhalt aufscheinen. Und von diesem Inhalt, so hoffe ich, dass er utopisch ist. Dieter Schnebel

Description

This piece is not so much about a particular utopia, nor is it about all utopias – that would in itself be utopian. On the contrary, it is a work about the intrinsic nature of utopias in the form of music theatre, with ‘voices in motion’ and orchestra. Utopien is a work about life. The vocalists are six sources of ‘sound in motion’ producing sounds ranging from traditional notes to phonetic articulations. I have designed a piece of absolute music like a string quartet or a symphony, but here with sound sources in motion. Out of these sounds, either in motion or in stasis, something akin to content can then appear. And it is my hope that this content is utopic. Dieter Schnebel
